Prepare to be impressed with
West Virginia
's world-class glass tradition - and the factory tours that bring this ancient art to life. From handcrafted carafes and pilsner glasses to beautiful, highly individualistic art glass, modern day artisans bend and blow this delicate medium into gorgeous and useful objects.
Blenko Glass became famous because of its elegant and functional water bottle, in production since 1938. A lovely item that is popular as a one-of-a-kind gift, water bottles and many other items are produced at the factory in Milton near Huntington. Choose your own favorite during a tour.
Three generations of Fentons celebrated 100 years of art glass creation at
Fenton Art Glass in Williamstown, near
Parkersburg
, in 2005. The tour, which allows visitors on the factory floor, was recently ranked among the Top 10 in the country by
USA Today.

Other factory favorites include
Homer Laughlin (makers of colorful Fiestaware) in Newell and Masterpiece Crystal Factory in Jane Lew, which makes glasses for a
Las Vegas casino, among other places. 'Seconds' can be purchased at very reasonable prices at both places. And while it's not really a factory
per se, you
can watch artisans at work at the state's arts and crafts showcase,
Tamarack, in Beckley.
